The Rise of AI Generated Content: Revolutionizing Marketing Strategies

In today’s digital era, artificial intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of our lives. It is transforming various industries and revolutionizing the way businesses operate. One of the most significant impacts of AI is its ability to generate content, including images and videos.

AI-generated content spanning text, visuals, video, and audio is reshaping marketing at lightning speed. Generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini handle everything from ad copy to creative summaries; text-to-image models such as DALL-E, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion produce compelling visuals; and new platforms like Sora (which I like a lot), Runway, and Veo are enabling on-demand video generation

Recent innovation amplifies marketers’ creative range: AI models generate entire campaign assets virtually instantly, boosting speed, agility, and creative flexibility. This article delves into the reasons behind the increasing use of AI. It explores the impact of AI-generated images and videos in marketing. Discussing the future of AI in the marketing landscape.

Why is the use of AI increasing?

The use of AI is steadily increasing. Used across industries due to its ability to streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and provide personalized experiences for customers. In the marketing realm, AI offers a plethora of benefits, including data analysis, customer segmentation, and content generation. With the exponential growth of data, marketers are seeking innovative ways to leverage AI. Using it to make sense of vast amounts of information and gain insights into consumer behaviour.

AI algorithms can process and analyse data at a scale and speed that humans simply cannot match. This enables marketers to make data-driven decisions, optimize campaigns, and achieve higher ROI.

Several factors are fuelling this surge:

  • Speed & efficiency: AI drafts content in seconds, reducing production timelines.
  • Cost effectiveness and scalability: Brands can produce more for less, reducing reliance on large, expensive teams. I also experienced time lag with brand approvals so making them quicker helps the overall timeline to go live.
  • Personalization at scale: Marketers can tailor campaigns to individuals using AI-driven personalization engines that analyse behavior and segment audiences with greater precision. Not bad at all 😉
  • Creative standardisation: Tools like Breeze AI and HubSpot’s AI powered “Content Agent” allow teams to generate landing pages, emails, images, and even pods or case studies without heavy technical skill. We shall see more of this in coming years.
  • Efficiency gains in production: Klarna, for instance, used AI like Midjourney and DALL-E to cut its image production from six weeks to one, saving $1.5 million in a single quarter and reducing marketing and sales costs by 11% ($10M annually)

In addition to Sora, ChatGPT, Envato AI suite, and Gemini, I also make use of AI technology within social media tools like Sprinklr social media management application. It helps me to create social media reports quickly, integrating aspects such as sentiment, virality, and competitive benchmarking.

I also use Hootsuite’s OwlyWriter AI to assist me with some of my personal brand tweets and Facebook posts.

Visual content plays a crucial role in marketing campaigns. They have the power to capture attention, evoke emotions, and convey brand messages effectively. AI-generated images have emerged as a game-changer. They provide businesses with the ability to create high-quality visuals without the need for professional designers or photographers. Freeing up valuable human resources for more strategic tasks. .

Visual marketing has been transformed by tools like DALL-E, Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, and Stable Diffusion, enabling brands to generate stylized, photorealistic images from text prompts.

Example: Mango and other fashion brands have leveraged AI-generated models in ads, reducing reliance on traditional models and speeding up creative production. This shift boosts ROI. Every week I read of a new use of AI that seems so plausible.

However, don’t get lazy! Be careful not to generate “AI slop” (Overuse of generic, low-effort AI visuals)

From product images to social media posts, AI-generated images enable marketers to maintain a strong visual presence across various platforms. I especially love creating images and videos.

Video content has become increasingly popular in marketing strategies, as it offers a dynamic and engaging medium for storytelling. AI-generated videos have opened up new avenues for marketers to create compelling visual narratives. Without needing professional videographers or extensive resources.
I used to love onsite video shoots but these might be less common when budgets get tight. Video creation has entered a new era with tools like Sora (OpenAI), Runway, and Veo. Now we have quick, high-quality video production from simple prompts.

These platforms offer capabilities such as background removal, motion graphics, and even text-to-speech voiceovers. I tend to get a good result I like after 4-5 attempts. However, much faster than the old process.

Brands are now experimenting with AI influencers etc. But this can introduces ethical issues around transparency and deepfake misuse.

The social media jedi series is my own take on showcasing new events and functionality in social media. I have been creating videos since 2018. I use some of my past colleagues to provide me with human voices and I mould the characters around them. However, I still need AI to help support the animation and voice creation process for the other characters.

By leveraging AI, marketers can create multiple versions of a video, and test them with different target segments. Now we can optimize campaigns based on real-time data. This data-driven approach allows marketers to refine their video content continuously, enhancing engagement and maximizing conversion rates.

The future of AI generated content in marketing

Looking ahead, AI content’s evolution is being shaped by several significant trends:

AI influencers: Virtual personas like “Tinsley” can engage audiences in a way that combines authenticity with scale.
Ethics and transparency: Studies show that labelling synthetic content affects perceived authenticity and trust.
Fighting low-quality content: “AI slop” is prompting brands to invest in quality control, ensuring AI-generated content adds value.
Human + AI collaboration: This is what I like. Combining the two.
Next gen AI powered marketing frameworks: Tools like HubSpot’s “The Loop” are redefining content workflows for example.

AI algorithms will be able to understand brand tone and style. I am experimenting with tools like this now.

The use of AI-generated content in marketing is on the rise, driven by the need for efficiency, personalization, and cost-effectiveness. AI-generated images and videos have already proved to be powerful tools. This allows marketers to create visually stunning content and engage their audiences effectively. As AI continues to advance, the future possibilities for AI in marketing are endless. It promises so much especially agentic AI.

We still need humans in most situations. AI cannot do it all. Humans often need to supply the input and are often using the output.

The optimal strategy? Marry AI’s scalability with human ingenuity for want of a better phrase. Therefore use AI to explore ideas, create assets, and refine personalisation but always keep your human editors, ethics frameworks, and brand authenticity … always.
