Trending Social Media
Being last to know about a new trend in your topic area can be costly to a business. Trends can come from anywhere and on any platform or media type. I am have been concentrating on social media trend discovery by using basic conversation analysis techniques for 14 years. My very first ever action with a social listening tool was trend discovery. I only had free access to it for 30 days. I was hooked. Exciting times.
Are you curious about leveraging mainstream social media platforms for trend discovery? With the right strategies and tools, you can stay ahead of the competition. Be the first to uncover the latest trends.
With the right combination of content type, tone, timing and hashtags, you can maximize the reach of your posts and stay ahead of the competition. Knowing how to take advantage of a new trend is not as easy as it seems. Lets start by seeing how to find those new trends.
Conversation Analysis by Sprinklr
Here is a short 1 minute video that I made with some colleagues; Danaia Orlianska, Trang Tran, and Maria Avieritei. It demonstrates how the Sprinklr conversation analysis tool can be used.
Using Conversation Analysis for Predictive Targeting
There are many things you can do once you have the opportunity to deep dive into trending social media. Many tactics at your disposal. One of those tactics is targeting. Conversation analysis looks at customer conversations to uncover many things. For example values, interests, and behaviors to determine the best method of targeting for paid campaigns. In some social listening programs you can create look-a-like targeting from the audiences engaged in a trend.
Discovering New Influencers
Deep diving into new social media trends that are relevant for your business can often uncover new influencers. Many of which you would have never found. I have discovered many over the years that were not known to my company at that time.
What Is Next?
Trust me. I have seen it many times. Marketers in a rut using social media marketing as a vehicle to post press releases. Falling into an always on inside out “look at all our products go click here” approach.

Hi Clive, I love using Brand24 to find these things via listening. You can put in any keywords to learn what others are saying about it. It’s really an invaluable tool!
Hi Lisa – Brand24 is a nice tool, and there are so many tools out on the market. Years ago I did a count up of the best and ended up with a list of about 98, so today, years later, it must be far far greater. I have used lots of these tools, currently my company users Sprinklr. However, I always say, as a social media marketer, you must at least use one of these type of tools. It’s essential 😉
